Responsibilities of Jobs at Camp
Beyond relating to children, a camp counselor is hired to lead or assist in a particular activity. Each counselor is expected to implement a quality program (with guidance from veteran staff) in his or her area of expertise. To succeed, this requires knowledge, patience, creativity and enthusiasm. Each counselor spends the bulk of his or her time in the morning and in the afternoon at this activity.
In addition to salary, we provide room and board, all meals, and in most cases transportation to and from camp. You are responsible for shipping your baggage to and from camp. Salaries range from $200 per week and up depending on position, qualifications, experience and references.
Each member of the counselor staff has four days and four nights off during the season. You are free each night after Taps except for one night a week when you are “On Duty.”
Camp counselors must maintain a neat personal appearance throughout the summer. Hair must be neat and trim (i.e. no extreme hairstyles such as unnatural colors, partial shaving, variations in hair length from side to side. For men, hair length must be above the top of a shirt collar, no more than half way down the ears, and no longer than the middle of the forehead). You may not start a beard while at camp. We do not permit earrings, nose rings, body jewelry, or conspicuous tattoos. The use of alcohol or illicit drugs, including returning to camp from time off under the influence, is strictly forbidden and is grounds for immediate dismissal.
